If you choose to leave your room, the hotel's magnificent Rose Bar is where you should venture first, followed by the Danny Meyer-run restaurant, Maialino.

"This 1925 landmark, whose bohemian sumptuousness had frayed in recent years, has been reanimated by hotelier Ian Schrager, who... buffed the old-school grandeur to a sheen."

"The lobby has a chic, hushed quality but upstairs, rooms go for fabulousness over comfort, with draped velvet, studded leather, and very red drapes."

"The Pierre still drips with luxury, its rooms offering views of Central Park, iPod docks and DVD players, though it’s not quite the palace it was when Salvador Dalí used to stay."

"A property of India-based Taj Hotels, the Pierre, along with the St. Regis and the Plaza, is one of New York’s grandest of grand dame hotels."

"Inviting service makes this sophisticated and beautifully renovated hotel seem not so intimidating."

"The Asian influence is reflected in silk bedspreads from Bangalore and contemporary Indian art, but the hotel restaurant is a swanky new Italian spot designed by Adam Tihany, Sirio."
