Ask for a room overlooking the State House, across Francis Street, and dine in the swank on-site Mediterranean restaurant, Temple Downtown.

"Unfinished and abandoned for nearly 80 years, the city’s 1929 Masonic temple is now the best thing to happen to Providence’s lackluster hotel scene, thanks to a $100 million renovation." Full review

It is almost easier to say what the rooms lack than what they have: There are no minibars or refrigerators, no coffeemakers, safes or iPod docks, and the baths are shower-only models that are tiled floor to ceiling in an effort to avoid having to install shower curtains.

"A stylish, welcoming blend of throwback style and modern features."
Condé Nast Traveler Condé Nast Traveler
"With a craft cocktail bar, a karaoke lounge, and a beer garden, The Dean is yet more proof that Providence is no longer a sleepy college town." Full review

"The Dean, in a century-old building that once housed a brothel, was named with a nod to nearby Brown University, and the look is equally smart." Full review

"Downtown Providence used to offer little in the way of artsy lodging—for high-minded digs, travelers would stick to ocean-facing suites along the state’s southern coast." Full review
